Not So Fast, Not So Furious: Just Magnetic

Abstract WD 0810-353 is a white dwarf within the 20 pc volume around Sun. Using Gaia astrometric distance and proper motions, radial velocity derived from spectroscopy, it has been predicted that this star will pass 1 of solar system in about 30 kyr. However, also shown to host magnetic field with strength order MG. Its spectrum therefore not like those normal DA stars similar effective temperature. We have obtained analyzed new polarized spectra H α . Our analysis suggests visible surface shows two regions different (∼30 ∼45 MG, respectively), opposite polarity. The do change over 4 yr time span, meaning either stellar rotation period no shorter than several decades, or symmetric axis. Taking into account shift splitting, we obtain an estimate (+83 ± 140 km s −1 ); reject both value claimed precision deduced DR3 spectroscopy (−373.7 8.2 ), conclude there probably be close encounter between 0810-353. suggestion hypervelocity runaway star, survivor Type Ia supernova explosion. It just remnant neighborhood very strong complex field.
